Kashgar
Kashgar is an oasis city in the Western part of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China, about 1300m above sea level. The city is located near the border of China and Tadjikistan. Kashgar has seen plenty of traffic over the last 2000 years as it was a major town along the Silk Road.
The Old Town attracts an estimated 1 million tourists per year. The Old City has been called: "the best-preserved example of a traditional Islamic city to be found anywhere in Central Asia".
